Case1: Chicago to Narita, diverted: Komatsu (They knew Komastu has enough long runway with the precision approach on both sides. The fright engineer was from Self Defence Force, who said ”When both Narita and Haneda are closed, Komatsu and Nigata are in choice.” )
Case2: Chitose to Haneda diverted: Hakodate (They swiftly determined to go back to Hokkaido, clever enough to open the resource of International airport Chitose, landed Hakodate.)
Case3: Kushiro to Haneda: G/A-HLD-G/A-HLD‐Haneda (rare case, most of the other jets were diverted)
Case4: NY to Narita diverted: Chitose, not including any Japanese fright crew
The captain doesn’t rely on their optimistic company info, from operator’s voice sensed the big trouble. They changed their course to west Japan, asked Chubu, Kansai, Itami and all were denied. They checked Yokota American base but it was already full. While they are going for Misawa American base, they got permission for Chitose international. The captain wondered which is better, finally chose an international airport, not a frontline air base for Russia, China and North Korea. In too crowded Chitose, they had a very long holding time, finally declared an emergency, landed closely before out of fuel.
