Video footage taken in late August in Saku, Nagano Prefecture, shows Yohei Ito, a proponent of insect-based food, catching a “semi” cicada to be cooked in olive oil to yield a flavor similar to French fried potatoes. Unlike cooking store-bought meat, catching and cooking insects offers a closer appreciation of the value of life and food, Ito believes.
