Taiwan is set to become the first country in Asia to legalise same-sex marriage after a landmark ruling in May but the progress has been stagnated, says human rights groups. A same sex couple had filed a lawsuit after their marriage registration was rejected by a household registration office. On Oct. 12, the Taipei High Administrative Court repealed the office’s decision, but said since the two year deadline of amending laws has not yet passed, same-sex marriages, including this couple’s case, still cannot be recognized immediately.
