Now for the Anniversary of “A Hangover You Don’t Deserve” comes 1985. Granted the song’s popularity has led to a handful of AMVs, and the official video was excellent; however, I figured I’d see if I could make another lyric-specific AMV using anime from the 80s & 00s. Because I was bound to the lyrics, some of the references went outside of those two decades. At the very least, “Debbie” was portrayed by Hikaru Hiyama from 1980s shouji anime Kimagure Orange Road, and Hiroko Matsukaka from mid-2000s josei anime Hataraki Man.
What I loved, which was alot of fun, was using the second opening for Orange Road for the AMV intro. The tv-static filtering used was perfect for the abrasive sounding guitars. I also liked having fun with the “her yellow SUV is now the enemy” part with the environmental picket signs. Another highlight was zooming out to the radio, then back in to the chorus. Lastly my favorite effect was turning back time literally from “2005” to 1985. Overall this was a fun experiment in what I can do with special effects.
Other things to note: I figured I’d play the original version in the credits. One big reason is because with other songs I did covers of offer the possibility of an interesting AMV. With “1985” the tone & style of SR-71’s version is largely the same, save for the lyrical changes in verse 2 & the bridge. So why not wrap up the AMV referencing more of the story with a yearbook and a dark joke?
As always: I do not hold copyright to any of the audio or video material and am protected under fair use section 107.
BECAUSE I don't intend to even profit off of these anyway, AND I urge anyone who likes the video to go out and purchase the band's albums and watch the shows featured in the video.
