ロシアのエルモーロフ将軍士官学校（General Yermolov Cadet School）で生徒たちが受けるのは、普通の授業ではない。演習用ライフルと砲弾装置を持った子供たちは、次世代のロシア軍だ。
スタヴロポリに位置するこの国営の学校は、パラシュートや愛国心についての授業を算数や理科の授業に取り入れている。
多くの生徒は、親と兄弟がすでに軍の一員である。
演習が野外で行われることもある。自分の体より大きいような武器を抱えながら、山の中を走り回ったり、川を渡ったりする。演習には成績のいい生徒しか参加できないため、演習に参加することは名誉なことだ。
シートの上に座り、ライフルを組み立て、山中サバイバル術の授業を受ける。生徒たちのほとんどは、いとも簡単に銃弾を抜くなどの操作をする。
この学校の授業は普通の5年生の授業ではない。生徒たちは未来のロシア軍に育て上げられる。

Molding Russia’s next generation of soldiers
The students of Russia’s General Yermolov Cadet School don’t have your typical curriculum. Armed with training rifles and rocket launchers, the children are the next generation of Russian military.
The state-run institution, located in Stavropol, has integrated classes like parachuting and patriotism with basic math and sciences.
Many students come from military families, their parents and siblings already active members.
On occasion, their training is taken to the field. They run through a forest and cross streams while balancing weapons which are almost as large as them. The students see the exercises as a privilege; only those with good grades are permitted to participate.
Spread out on tarps, they sit assembling their rifles and getting instruction on forest survival tactics – most displaying a comfortable ease in their duties, like unloading bullets from a magazine.
It’s not your average fifth-grade class, but these pre-teens will be molded into Russia’s future soldiers.
